Photo gallery of animals found in Peru
We just can´t stop our excitement about Peru´s biodiversity! This also includes the many animals that
are found here, of which in its turn many are home to the rainforest around the lodge. Have a look at
the photo gallery over at Rumbos Magazine, one of the best Peruvian travel magazines on and offline, to
see good photos of many of the wonderful animal species that live in Peru.
17th April 2008:
Surprise visit at the Thai Restaurant of Anaconda Lodge
One day at the end of March Anaconda Lodge received a wonderful surprise as some unexpected visitors turned
up from... the Thai Embassy in Peru! Wadee, the female half of the pair that owns the lodge, and oversees
the Thai Restaurant, is from Thailand and was delighted to be able to speak Thai with some of her
fellow countrymen. Anaconda Lodge hereby invites all Thai and other visitors to Peru to come and
visit Anaconda Lodge and get a feel of Thailand while they explore the beautiful rainforest around
Puerto Maldonado.

This video shows you some of the different animals that inhabit the Amazon rainforest. It also features
the snake that inspired us with its name, the Anaconda!

Bolivia and Peru defend coca use
Unbelievable to all inhabitants of the Andes in Peru and Bolivia, the UN drugs agency has criticised the chewing
of coca leaves, failing to see the importance of this ancient and sacred plant for local inhabitants, focusing
only on the fact that coca leaves are used to produce cocaine.
Of course, locals have been up in arms to defend their traditional use of chewing coca leaves, reminding
the world that chewing the leaves actually has very important health benefits and is used in many
sacred rituals.
3rd March 2008:
Tambopata Candamo: Saving the Planet
The Tambopata Candamo Reserved Zone is very close to our lodge, and very special because of its
incredibly high biodiversity.
This article tells us more about a large-scale conservation project that is currently taking place
in the area, and more importantly, explains us why it is so important to conserve this piece of the rainforest.
